Kanazawa: Gold River Town

Posted by

Kanazawa means gold river in Japanese. It is said the gold produced took 99% of Japan in a period. Facing Japan Sea but few people see Kanazawa as a port city.

So Kanazawa is a town rich businessmen lived. One famous tourism spot is Kanazawa Castle. Walking out of castle you will see Kenrokuen. Kenrokuen is more famous than castle.

This store has the typical layout every Japanese shop has. Ice cream, cookies, cakes and other sweets.

In Gold River town of course people use gold in many ways. They even cover ice cream with thin gold paper.

Look a shop. With super hunger I rushed into this shop and ordered some hot food and soup. January is still cold for me.

Having stomach warmed I kept walking and I found a beautiful sight this day.

Another nice tourism spot is Geisha Area. There some fancy shops along the street. Especially in the evening when the illumination lights up you will see a typical traditional Japanese street.

Since Mar. 15, 2015 a new Shinkansen line is available for visitors around Tokyo. You can just spend 3 hours in the suitable and quiet train.

If you wan to experience deep Japanese culture and my suggestion is to go Kanazawa.
